The 17th June saw 10 RIOT members tackle the Bustinskin Race to The Bill triathlon, for many of them it being their first open water triathlon. The day started very early with registration opening at 06:00. As the RIOT convoy crossed the Portland causeway everyone’s attention quickly turned towards the sea to see if there were any crashing waves that would need battling through! Luckily it was relatively calm settling any early morning nerves. The race started at 08:00 and our resident powerhouses Matt Beaven and Scott Wilding quickly were amongst the front pack as the course took the athletes around the marina breakwater before heading back to the slipway to T1, after a lot of wriggling and hopping the wetsuits were off and everyone started the bike course which began with conquering Mount Portland (or did it just feel like that) before speeding out to the Portland Bill lighthouse the course then brought the athletes back to T2 ready for the trail(ish) run along Portland causeway on an out and back course back to the Portland Sailing academy to collect the race bling!!
Matt Beaven, Helen Timms and Amy Mason finished the race second in their age category. Dee Brooks and Kev Cochrane coming in third in their age cats showing that everyones hard work (or biscuit eating in Matts case) is really paying off!! Keep it up guys!!
